VFD's - What They Are and How to Choose One
What is a VFD?
VFD's are electronic motor drives that allow the user to control the rotational speed of alternating current (or "AC") electric motors. VFD's control the motor by varying the frequency of the electrical power supplied to the motor. A VFD can have many applications, i.e.; controlling the speed, torque, direction and horsepower of a motor.
VFD's actually have many different names. They are known as Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Adjustable Frequency Drive (AFD), Variable Speed Drive (VSD), Adjustable Speed Drive (ASD), Frequency Drive, A C Drive, Microdrive or Inverter Drive. Since the voltage can be varied along with frequency, these electronic motor drives are sometimes called VVVF (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) drives.
Variable Frequency Drives have a wide variety of uses. For example, VFD's are used:
- • To save energy in heating/cooling large buildings (by precisely controlling air flow in the ventilation systems)
- • To help increase efficiency in manufacturing facilities (by controlling the optimum speed at which the conveyors, pumps and machines all work together)
- • To keep riders safe on roller-coasters (VFD's control the speed at which the cars travel around sharp corners and loops).
How to choose a VFD
Most people need a little help when it comes to searching for, selecting and purchasing a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive). There are so many different attributes to consider, it can be overwhelming. Current, Voltage, Horse Power, Enclosure... these are just a sampling of all the specifics you have to consider BEFORE you can make a decision.
Now there's a website that makes choosing the right VFD a whole lot easier. Go to http://www.IndustrialLive.com, click on the VFD button on the navigation menu, and the site practically does all the work for you. The IndustrialLive.com site has completely taken the guesswork out of shopping for a VFD. It now features 2 different methods for you to find the VFD you need fast:
- 1) A traditional "Search Box" will allow you to search the entire site for a replacement Drive fast. You have the ability to search utilizing any terms you want such as Manufacturer, Model and/or Part Number. The results are fast and accurate.
- 2) Easy "Navigational Search" is now available on the left hand side of all pages on the IndustrialLive.com site. With this new feature you narrow down your results based upon selections you make, such as Current, Voltage, Horse Power, Enclosure and more.
With these new advanced search functions it's easier than ever to find the exact VFD you need. Plus, you'll also find IndustrialLive.com offers some of the lowest prices on the internet and fast shipping.

I'm doing this AFD (April Fools Day) prank on my dad, and I need a website with some videos...?
I need a website that has some videos that look normal, and then all the sudden a weird picture pops up. (seen AFV, anyone?) It should be something like the videos on this site:
http://sciencefriday.com/
That's the type of stuff that he's interested in, and if I just tried to play a video that he wasn't interested in, well, he'd know that something fishy was going on. The weird picture that pops up can't be tooo weird, I mean.....just it can't. umm, what else should I say? oh! it has to be something that I would be looking at. I can do youtube. thanks,
♥Sarah♥
ps: i don't have any way of making one of my own.
you should look in youtube they show like everything.
AFD FIRE WIRE
A Hazmat team from Fire Station No. 1 responded to a gas leak on the 1700 block of Everett Street at 11:14 a.m. When crewmembers arrived they found that there was the faint smell of natural gas. They called PG&E after opening all the doors and windows and shutting off the water and gas.
