Focusing is essential in digital photography. One of the biggest topics in digital photography is lighting. If the light isn't right, then the picture is coming out in trouble. Most cameras will see things in a percentage of grayscale with three difference colors following pursuit. Therefore, photographers focus on backdrops, angles and the like.

It is wiser to add light rather than try to do it in some instances. Most cameras have a dimmer switch, which you can hit if the light is too bright. If the area is too light, you want to read your manual to see what exposure effects you can use in this situation. Otherwise, you can change your position or angle to adjust to the lighting. An ideal if you are trying to snap a shot with a dark background is holding up a grey colored card and letting the snaps meter visual this, which will trick the camera and then you can snap the shot.

One thing you want to keep in mind is that the fixed cameras are manufactured set. Therefore, if you are using one of these cameras you need to keep distance from the target in focus. The digital cameras today have automatic focus commands, which makes it easier to control your focus shots. If you are using the digital cameras with auto focus, you will need to lock in the command to make it work. Go figure! They say automatic and put you to work.

With a digital camera, you can target the subject or frame in photographers terms. Once you have the target in focus, you can hold the shutter button down, holding it halfway. Once you have these steps in place, realize that today's cameras alert you at what time the picture is ready to take.

After you have the alert message appearing push the shutter button down and there you have it. Now that you have a focus, let me stop here for a minute, since I received an e-mail that is fascinating.

It appears the new I-Stick is one of the latest storage mediums for storing files. This medium comes in 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB. What a rewarding new commodity for storing images. Apparently, you can store about anything you want, including music, spreadsheets, videos, documents, pictures and more.

Anyway, back to focus. Are you focusing on the object or person you want to snap a shot at? Are you missing the shot? If you are, realize there are programs that will help you even if you don't focus properly. If your camera has auto focus, personally, I prefer not to use this feature, since as a high observational candidate, I trust what I see verses some auto device taking control of my sight. One thing you want to remember while snapping pictures is to stand still without moving the camera out of position while it is targeting the subject. If you move it can cause blurring, which can degrade your picture. If you are taking pictures with the camera positioned on a surface, your best bet is to invest in a tripod. Tripods are designed to keep a camera in place while pictures are being snapped.

If you understanding light, cameras and focus you are half way to the marketing point of taking a good picture. Still, even if you can't get it going on, you can use software-editing tools to make necessary changes. Remember, cameras also (most) have automatic timers, which enable you to set the cam to snap a shot at the right time. After all, it's all about the image.

Using Camera Canon Digital Powershot S2 to Shoot Quality Photographs

For the person who wants to shoot quality photographs there are many brands and types of cameras that you can buy. These cameras span a wide range of choices – you will find the old fashioned camera, the automatic camera where all you have to do is point and shoot and the digital cameras. With the digital camera Canon digital PowerShot s2 being one of the better cameras.

The camera Canon digital PowerShot s2 provides its owners with many excellent features. These features improve on the traits that were found in the predecessor of the PowerShot s2. In this camera Canon digital PowerShot s2 combines the qualities of a camcorder with that of a digital camera.

The new features of the Canon digital PowerShot s2 include a 12x optical zoom lens, a large 1.8 inch LCD display, and a new “Night Display” feature. This feature brightens the LCD and the EVF when they are in low light. You will also find that there is a DIGIC II image processor. This image processor provides this camera Canon digital PowerShot s2 with superior quality performance ability.

This camera Canon digital PowerShot s2 has still other interesting abilities. These abilities are Stereo sound recording for excellent sound and pitch. The Canon PowerShot s2 also has a 5 megapixal CCD.

For the person who loves to make home movies the camera Canon digital PowerShot is perfect as there are some very interesting movie making features available with this digital camera. You will find features like wind filter, adjustable mic level and sound quality level.

To help you with adjusting the color quality and appearance this camera Canon digital PowerShot S2 will let you swap the colors that you want while the picture is on the camera itself. You can even highlight various parts of the picture with a program that is called My Colors.

While so many features makes buying a camera Canon digital PowerShot S2 such a great idea the camera itself uses many of the features of its predecessor. As a result you will find optical image stabilization, USB 2.0 high speed support, a rotating LCD, and Secure Digital memory cards instead of CompactFlash cards.

There are also full manual controls, an excellent movie mode as mentioned earlier and support for conversion lenses. With these different features you will find that your camera Canon digital PowerShot S2 is an indispensable part of you when you go on holiday, or at special functions.

What is a good standard setting besides automatic on my 35 mm camera?

I have to take some pictures for photo class. I don't know if using the automatic on the aperture ring would be too boring or what. Should I set it at 1.8, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, or 22? I'm not doing any in focused stuff or anything. Just a regular black and white picture. Thanks!

Although I have no idea what kind of camera you're using, I bet it has a light meter built-in. You need to learn to use it.

Correct exposure is a triangle with f-stop, ISO and shutter speed making up the 3 legs. Since you are using film, the ISO is a constant. The shutter speed and f-stop are variables - change one and you change the other. For an example, I'll refer to the "Sunny 16 Rule" which states: "On a sunny day, set your f-stop to f16 and your shutter speed to 1/ISO." So when we're out on a sunny day using ISO 100 we can shoot at f16 and 1/125 sec. (The "Rule" was invented when camera shutters were 100% mechanical so we used the shutter speed closest to the ISO). If your unidentified camera has an electronically controlled shutter it will come closer to matching the ISO.

ISO 100

f16 @ 1/125 sec.
f11 @ 1/250 sec.
f8 @ 1/500 sec.
f5.6 @ 1/1000 sec.
f4 @ 1/2000 sec. I'm guessing but this is probably your camera's fastest shutter speed.

See the relationship? As we "open up" the lens more light is admitted and our shutter speed gets faster. At f11 twice as much light is admitted as at f16; at f8, twice as much light is admitted as at f11, etc.

You should see from our chart that there is no "standard setting" on a film camera or a digital camera. If you use it in Manual and leave the shutter speed at 1/1000 sec. and set the f-stop to any one other than f5.6 then your exposure will be wrong. At f8 it will be under-exposed and at f4 it will be over-exposed.

I must admit to being a bit confused by your statement: "... not doing any in focused stuff... Just a regular black and white picture." Do you mean to tell us that your pictures don't have to be in focus? If your pictures aren't in focus then why bother taking them?
