Why did Nikon put that red slash in the camera body?

It would look so much more professional if it didnt have that red plastic.

I am not positive about this, so don't take it as correct, but I *think* Nikon puts different colors on the body depending on the market in which they are to be sold. So for instance, the US model will have red, while a camera intended to be sold in Japan may have a blue insert. If you buy a grey market camera here in the US, it can have a different look than the cameras normally sold in the US market.

I have an old Nikon 990 that has a purple coloring on the grip. This camera in other markets had a red grip, and I think I also remember seeing a blue insert on some others.

So again, I believe this is one way in which Nikon differentiates camera models intended to be sold in certain areas of the world.

I might be ALL WRONG on that though as I have never seen anything actually written about it from a reliable source, it is just what I have observed.
