I think we all can agree that, one of the first things that we see when we walk into a wedding reception area are the centerpieces. If you've ever been to a bridal show, it's as if the florist booth always draws brides to it with displays of beautiful centerpieces. By the time you are finished looking, you have visions of flowers dancing in your mind. Many times this look comes with a price...a BIG price. So what's a girl to do? How can you have beautiful centerpieces without sacrificing every penny? Here is what I did.

First, you must assess where the wedding is taking place. Are you having a wedding at a reception hall that has a low ceiling, and you want tall, statuesque centerpieces. You may want to bring the height down a bit because it may give a look of being cramped or packed. You may want to do a medium height or even a low centerpiece. On the other hand if the room has high ceilings, the tall centerpieces may give your reception the drama that it needs.

You also have to think about the formality and theme of your wedding. Centerpieces do convey the theme and give cohesion to the look of the entire day. If you are doing a laidback country casual theme, your centerpieces should reflect that. Don't use the look of the urban city loft. What if you are having a highly formal wedding reception? I don't think the party centerpieces from the prom will match the look that you are going for.

Beautiful centerpieces are a reflection of your tastes and your style.

Next, you need to get ideas. What did I do? I went to bridal shows with a camera. Whether it is your camera phone or an actual camera, it does not matter. Just bring something and snap pictures of the beautiful centerpieces that you see. Don't just snap a picture and walk away. Study it. See the flowers that the florist used. Look at how the arrangement is done. I know you may not be able to do the exact same thing, but try to see if you can take cues from it to make it the beautiful centerpiece that you want. On top of studying it, talk to the florist. Ask questions about how they created it. Tell them that you are a bride on a budget and see how they could make this centerpiece for you but cheaper. You may be surprised that the florist can actually save you big bucks. By doing this, you should at least get an idea of what you want and the look that you want.

Practice. Practice. Practice. Buy some flowers and practice making centerpieces that you may like. I have made over 10 types of centerpieces that I think are beautiful. Since I like roses, I bought roses from the grocery store to get the look of a variety of centerpieces. This is a pretty cheap way to practice; however, if you can't do this, decide on the flowers that you want, and buy silks and experiment. A favorite place of mine to get silk flowers and vases from is Michael's. Practicing works best when you have time. Because I have been engaged almost two years, I am in no rush to decide and can go through all the ideas in my head before making a decision.

Before you know it, you will have beautiful centerpieces that everyone will notice at the reception. Remember; think about your space, theme, and formality. Get ideas and practice those ideas to see if they are practical for you.

Things to Remember:

o Try to find inexpensive flowers that can give the same effect as expensive ones. Some centerpieces are over $100 per centerpiece. Part of this cost is the flowers that you use. Find cheaper flowers!

o Don't spend much money on the container. All eyes will be on the flowers. No one cares if the vase is crystal or made out of a special kind of glass. Truth is no one will notice. The Dollar Store, Family Dollar, and General Dollar Store are a few sites with nice vases that you can use.

o Taller centerpieces are more expensive than lower ones. Many taller centerpieces are more elaborate than the lower centerpieces, so this means more work and sometimes, more flowers which can be a large task it you are taking this on yourself.

o Elaborate centerpieces take a lot of time, effort, and talent. Make sure you know how to arrange the centerpiece you want. You don't want to be halfway through making the arrangements, get frustrated, and be ready to quit. Give yourself time. Get help. Take some classes to learn how to make more intricate centerpieces.

o Make sure the centerpiece is a reflection of you.

How To Create Effective Classified Ads!

Most people searching classified ads have already decided what they want to purchase, classified ads give them the option to save as much money as possible on the item they have decided on buying.  Unlike e-commerce websites for online shops, classified ads are not designed to up-sell additional products but to list second-hand and sometimes new items at a discounted price to the mainstream shops.  

With this in mind the first thing you need to have is an accurate and detailed title for your advert.  Something along the lines of "Nearly New Digital Camera for Sale" will not be sufficient to attract most people, how many "nearly new" items do you think are for sale on the internet?  Also the words "for sale" are a waste in the title, as the title is one of the most searched text strings within an advert.  Also how many times have you used the phrase "for sale" when searching for items, I'm assuming never!   Obviously the "Digital Camera" is required as this categorises the item you are selling, although the title could be more descriptive like the following.

"Nikon 6 Megapixel D100 SLR Digital Camera"

With this title you have captured the "Digital Camera" buyers like in the original title but you have also captured people searching for "Nikon Camera", "6 Megapixel Camera", "D100 SLR" and "Nikon SLR".  Just this simple improvement to your ad has possible tripled the amount of potential buyers finding you item for sale helping to not only guarantee the sale of it but also selling it quicker!

The description is the next most important thing for your classified ad, once you have hooked the potential buyer with your snappy title the next step is to describe your item and tell people why it is the best one to buy. 

The best way to start the description is by saying what the item is, what the model number is or the variations of the item, does it come with any addition extras that make it a better buy also include specifications like size voltage etc.  This helps to tell the seller that the item they are looking at is exactly what they want, to many times people list items with no model No. etc and people leave the advert as they are unable to compare it with other items they have found.  And you may think that because there is a contact me button people will ask you for this information, sadly that is not the case and buyers would sooner do another search to find an item with all the information.

Once you have given the full specification I find now a good point to describe the condition of the product.  This should be as detailed as possible with a photograph for visual reference to backup your description of the condition.  Some websites like Job-Lot.com (http://www.job-lot.com) also allow you to grade your items from "A" to "G", A being in mint condition and G being of very pour or unusable condition. 

A short story about the history of the item and why you are selling can also be a big plus when trying to sell second-hand items.  This helps to tell the potential buyer what the item has been used for, how often it has been used and who has used it.  Read the below description of a second hand DVD player.

"This is my 3 year old daughter's DVD player from her bedroom, works well as she uses it everyday although she changes DVD's every ten minutes.  I don't think she has ever watched a DVD all the way through!!"

Now alarm bells are ringing, although this may be a cute story, would you really want to buy a DVD player that had been well used by a 3 year old?  It may look in mint condition on the outside, but what will the internal workings be like?

OK so we still have the buyer hooked and they are ready to buy our well titled and described item, but we need to tell them a few more pieces of information.  Price, Delivery cost and service or pickup only, location, payment method and returns policy if it is damaged in shipping etc.  Although most websites like Job-Lot.com have specific fields for this information it is always good just to put any additional information at the bottom of the advert.

Now that you have your well constructed advert you should see a big uplift in the selling of your second-hand items through classified ads. 

Just remember:

1.  A well worded title
2.  Describe the item details (Model, item No. etc)
3.  Condition of the item, including at least one photo of it
4.  A short story of the items history and why you are selling
5.  And finally shipping costs, pickup only and any other transaction details

Where can i hide my camera during class?

my class can get pretty crazt and it would be so cool to get it on camera. but theres only one problem, where should i put it. i wanna put it with me somewhere but obviously the teacher cant see me. what can i do to my desk so that i can hide my camera with out anyone noticing? the camera is pretty small. its the size of an Altoid Mint pack. 10 pts for best answer

Hold it in your hand and cover every part of it except the lens. If it's that small you probably be able to just hold it and make sure the teacher doesn't see it.
