Is the Opteka battery pack grip comparable in quality to the Canon battery pack grip for the Canon XTi?

I want to buy a battery grip for my Canon XTi and my choices are the Opteka or Canon brand. The Canon brand is almost twice as much though, so I was wondering if I could just get by with the Opteka.

When it was introduced the Opteka/Targus/Ebay battery grip (BG) was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. It was infact a few gm lighter than the OEM BG. But some folks have had problems with this BG (but the same can be said for the OEM BG too). There are several threads on this issue on P.O.T.N
