Living in these times is a worry and stress in itself. We constantly worry about maintaining a steady job, earning enough money to cope with the mortgage and bills as they are raised higher and higher due to the economic climate we live in. We worry about how you can keep up with your current lifestyle without having to give up on the little luxuries. These days just having a TV, Cable and a Car is becoming a luxury for many of us, where once these were common past times.

Coping with stress in the work place

As many work places continually cut down on their staff, but still expect the existing staff to carry the extra workload, more and more of us are now feeling the burden of the added workload, tight timescales, lack of self worth, ill health, lack of social life, unable to see where the journey is leading us, working like a dog with no juicy bone for a reward in sight. So what can we do to alleviate the stress now being placed on many of us in the workplace.

You can only deal with ONE thing at a time, however clever we are, many of us are not able to multitask to that level...

o Make a list - many of us just have in-trays and work gets piled on top of work. Work can get lost or something urgent placed at the bottom of the pile. Write a daily list of urgent things to do, prioritise them on a scale of 1 - 3.

Are there any tasks which can be delegated? If you are delegating agree objectives and timescales so that the work gets done and gets passed back to you in good time.

Always use a 'roll over' system so you do not miss any urgent tasks. i.e. if not completed on the day then roll them over for the following day.

o Agree your timescales - Once you have made your priority list of things to do, you then need to agree your timescales: - agree your timescales with either your boss, or each person or area where the work is required to be completed. Be realistic with the timescales you give yourself. Take into consideration interruptions in the day to day working of the office, phone calls, meetings etc.

o Work on one Urgent priority at a time that way you can ensure the task gets completed and you are not distracted by all the others piling up.

Once a week, you may wish to just go through the 'non-urgent' priorities and get most of them out of the way where possibly quickly. This will ensure that work does not get piled up because you are working on more urgent priorities elsewhere.

If you feel your workload is too much for you and you are feeling overwhelmed, then talk to your boss. They are after all 'human beings' too, and they may be able to help you prioritise what it is you need to focus on for the immediate future. They may even be able to delegate some of your workload from you.

Take a Break each day

Having at least a 30 minute break a day is important for your sanity! Go for a walk at lunch time, or find somewhere quiet and either listen to your iPod or music player, or read. Some form of exercise is ideal, as this will help reinvigorate your mind and body, and you will feel ready to tackle the in tray for the afternoon...

Dark Rooms Have Been Used Since The Early 1900’S To Develop Black And White Photographs

A dark room is basically any room or area that is fixed so that no light can enter into it. This is required to develop photographic materials without damaging them. Most photographic material including film negatives are very sensitive to light.

Dark rooms have been used since the early 1900’s to develop black and white photographs. For developing black and white film, the room or area does not have to be completely dark. If you are developing anything with color, the room or area must be free of any type of light. So how do developers see what they are doing?

A safelight is a special amber colored light that gives the developer enough light to see, but it is not bright enough to expose the paper. If you are interested in making a dark room in your home, it is not a difficult process.

The first process is to make sure the work area will be safe. Then you need to ensure that absolutely no light, including sunlight will get into the area. This includes rays of light that can come in under the door. Once you have secured the darkness of the area, you are ready to install equipment.

You may already have some equipment or choose to purchase it new. You may also want to search online for used equipment. Often you can find used equipment in excellent shape at a great price. The most important pieces of equipment you need are an enlarger and lens. If you are buying new, it is likely they will be sold together. If you are buying used, look for a set together. You can purchase each part separately, but they work better if they are from the same manufacturer and of the same quality. You will want to purchase a quality safelight that allows you to see, but does not allow light that will damage your work into the area.

A timer is essential so that you do not over expose your developments. It is easy to get distracted and not notice the time. Even an extra minute or two can seriously damage your project. If you plan to do large prints 8x10 or bigger, you will want to invest in an easel. It is not necessary for smaller sized prints.

The chemicals you purchase will depend on the type of projects you want to do. A photography shop or some online research can point you in the right direction.  A few small items you will also need are binder clips and development trays. For easy clean up keep paper towels, plastic spoons, masking tape, and a squeegee available. You should be ready to start having some fun now, and enjoying the results of having your own dark room to work in.

Why do I have to do a "repair" to connect to my wireless network...?

My laptop has been working fine on my wireless network for many months... but has now developed a problem....

When I boot-up my laptop (and press the "wireless" button) it no longer detects my wireless network. However, if I right-click on the wireless network icon in the system tray, and choose "repair", it then works fine.

Background: my laptop is an E-System 3086; my router is a Netgear DG834PN; and I have excellent signal strength.
Thankyou for your response.... Here is some supplementary info. The E-System range is distributed by PC World in the UK. The wireless button has to be pressed after booting each time (it is some sort of power saving feature)... and worked fine for a couple of months... but now I have to "repair" each time.

I've never heard of an E-System 3086 (who makes it?). In any case, you shouldn't have to press your wireless button every time you boot up. That is, on most laptops, you just press the wireless button once and wireless stays on, even if you shut down the machine and boot it back up (that is, the system should remember that wireless was activated when you shut down and resume the wireless state when it comes back up).

Are you sure the wireless is off when the machine comes back from being booted up? My thought is, maybe the wireless is actually on when you boot up, and when you press the wireless button, you're actually turning it back off. Then, when you do a repair, you're turning it back on again. Is there an indicator light on the wireless button that comes on when wireless is on?

The densifier
For the world’s largest maker of foam cups and containers, 50 years of production probably equals a lot of empty coffee containers discarded by the side of the road.
