how do you repair a hole in a hollow wooden door?

It's not a full blown hole, there is still wooden material there, but its been kicked in (my boyfriend had a party, some idiot blah blah....) anyways, instead of replacing the door, is there anyway to repair it inexpensively?
its a painted white door...i bet wood putty would probably work. we shall see! thanks

If it is painted..The wood putty will not stick as good..Rough it up some with some sandpaper,appy wood putty,,wait for it 2 dry 6 to 8 hrs and lightly sand repaint..
When you 1st put the putty on,get it down as flat as you can on the door...A whole lot less sanding...
