I read the article as well, and I would have to say that the study performed was pretty extensive, covering a long period of time. Assuming these physicians that were selected adhered to the standards of the study, the results seem to be fairly concrete. There have been many vitamins and supplements that have had their claims of preventative treatments debunked as of late. I believe these various vitamins and minerals were looked to for their value as antioxidants, where cellular oxidation can cause damage to DNA, and eventually increase the risk of cancer. Cancer is a tricky beast for sure, and its causes and factors are going to vary for just about any individual. A lot more goes into cancer and other multifactorial diseases (like cardiovascular disease or diabetes) than just taking supplements, such as exercise and diet, of course.
