The Sony Ericsson W850i - a Forgotten Masterpiece

Let's step back in time to look at one of a fab music phone from the past: the Sony Ericsson W850i.

It's probably quite hard to imagine, nowadays, a world without music phones. They're something that we really all take for granted these days. But not so long ago, we had mobile phones without music. The kids might not remember, but us old folks (ie/ anyone over 20, in the kids' eyes) remember the bad old days when mobile phones did... well, not very much, really. And we still loved our phones, even back then. So, you can imagine how big a shock it was to get phones with music on.

Well, one of the product lines that really did our nut in with how good it was (and still does today), is Sony Ericsson's raneg of ace Walkman-phones, phones whose raison d'etre, whose reason for living, is music. Phones like the old W800i, the first Walkman phone I can remember. But this article is going to focus on a slightly later phone, that had a similar spec to the W800i, but had a really gorgeous sliding body; the wonderful Sony Ericsson W850i.

Taking the Walkman music player, and squeezing it into the body of a slidephone was a stroke of genius. The Sony Ericsson W850i retains the functionality of its predecessors, but easily outdoes them on the sexiness scale. The sliding action is lovely and smooth, the body is textured to make it feel a bit like carbon fibre (which is a pointless, but nice touch). Oh, and when you start up the Walkman music player, the keypad on the front of the slide glows bright orange. Which, again, is pretty pointless, but it looks, and makes you feel, ace!

So, that's the exterior, but what about what's inside this Sony Ericsson mini-masterpiece? Well, as mobile phones from the time go, it's really rather advanced. Heck, it's still advanced these days. You get, built in, a 2 megapixel camera (and it's virtually identical to the cam seen in the Cyber-Shot range's predecessor, the K750i) and the advanced Walkman music player. You also get dedicated gaming keys above the screen, which is a novel addition, and something you don't see on many phones! So, when you compare mobile phones, even if you pit the Sony Ericsson W850i against a modern phone, it'll still come out of the fight doing well for itself!

why my polaroid pics are coming out too small, instead of the full frame of the poraroid film...?

Medium format camera...ETRS .Zenza Bronica I just got this camera and I want to take some polaroids pics, but I realize that are not coming out in the 4*6 full frame. it only shows like a small square from what I photograph...

What film are you using?
Don't Polaroids have a much smaller picture area than the actual "sheet" size?
