When upgrading a processor, how much thermal paste do I apply?

First clean the top of the processor and bottom of the heat sink with isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol). This kind of alcohol is purer (doesn't’t contain water) and can be found at electronics equipments stores or drugstores. then apply a small amount to the center of the possessor size of a pea maby smaller hard to explain the vision in my head lol. When you apply the heat sink it will spread out the compound no need to do that with a card or anything. Be car full not to use too much it can short the transistors around the processor if it were to mush out on to them. too much also make heat dissipation worse.. Hope this helps : )
