Easy ID / FOCUS and Drivers License Scanning

Honeywell and Metrologic have teamed to create an interesting new product kit to accomplish that task. The EASY ID kit has the ability to scan the State Drivers License, and pull literally anything you want out of it. EASY ID is the software for making sense of the formatted drivers license and is kitted with Firmware being a part of the FOCUS scanner. This kit or firmware is where the magic is.

Reading and scanning the Drivers License 2D bar code has been possible for a while, if the license bar code is not encrypted, but it required a lot of programming updates and support in software to keep up with the ever changing bar code format. Eighteen states actually follow a specification for Drivers License. For those eighteen states, this would not be a big issue, that is unless those states decide to add something or change something. For most of the other 32 states, where the license also includes the PDF417 bar code, there is no specification followed. Honeywell engineers have made the commitment to maintain the changing specification in most of the states. This update done by sending out a file to EASY ID, that through the MS1690 or MK1690 FOCUS Scanner and EASY ID Kit, just have to be uploaded.

Configuring the Focus scanner with EASY ID is a snap. There are actually 2 ways to configure the EASY ID and the FOCUS. One way is through a manual that comes with the unit. This works well, but is typical in that once you set the unit up with scans you must scan it again to change the configuration or to roll it out to other locations. The other way is preferable and much easier using Metroset. Metroset is a program that allows you to pick and choose your delimiters for the data and fields from the program visually. After selecting what you want, you can then print a configuration bar code that can be scanned at any time to setup or configure the EASY ID/FOCUS kit.

Uses for this product might include New Membership, Convention Access, Hospital Admittance, and Age Verification. The hospital admittance process might be even more interesting by adding a camera, zebra hc100 wristband printer, Easy ID Kit, and software. Another application could log every entry into an establishment that requires age verification. It could be logged as to pass fail, and check expired license and appropriate age. Oh we did that logging app by the way just to test the unit, and the scanner made it simple.

An Urgent Appeal From The Boat Safety Scheme

An urgent appeal has gone out to boaters from the manufacturers of Belling, Flavel, Leisure and New World cookers - act now to avoid the risk of potentially fatal carbon monoxide poisoning.

As a result, the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) is urging boat owners, including those that rent and hire their craft, to check the brand and model of their cooker as there is a serious risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from some models.

Free modifications by the suppliers' engineers to the cookers are available to prevent the risk of CO if the grill is used accidentally with the door shut. This is a quick and simple operation.

The Boat Safety Scheme advises any boat owners with the following appliances to call the free-phone number 0800 342 3049 to have their appliance modified as soon as they can:

The BSS is also alerting anyone with a battery powered carbon monoxide alarm supplied by Lloytron (model B822) or PowerPlus (model BWK034C/Ref 6167) that some units are being recalled.

Recent tests have shown that some batches may not detect (and hence may not sound an alarm) in the presence of certain concentrations of carbon monoxide.

The advice is to remove the unit and return it to the place where you bought it for a refund or further advice.

The alarms are approximately 11cm in diameter. The Lloytron item is in blue packaging and the PowerPlus item is sold with blue and yellow packaging.

The BSS believes carbon monoxide alarms made to the international standard EN 50291 and installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines can give boaters reassurance, but they should be used alongside a policy of maintaining and using gas, coal, wood and oil-burning appliances according to instructions.

Has anyone had an alarm sales person come to their door lately? It may be a scam...Read on.?

There is some people going around saying their from Honeywell and they're selling alarm systems. I've heard that some people have been burgalarized almost right after this phony sales person comes to their homes. One of my dads friends was burgalarized last night. He had the phony sales person come up to his door yesterday, and he was burgalarized last night.
I'd watch for a beat up late model van with a trailer.
People wearing light blue polo shirts.
They don't have business cards, or any identification. I'd watch for these people.

Lock your back doors and windows becasue that's how they get in. Of course lock your entire house.

If you live near the airport and you just had new windows installed by the FAA look out. These phonys are looking specifically into these homes.
That's how my parents house was almost hit. When he came up to the door he said "since you have new windows, you should consider new alarm systems"

Wow, thanks for the info. Before this scam started there was this one where people would go around neighborhoods and were trying to "test for hard water". Lots of thiefs used this excuse to gain entry into your house, scope it out and clean you dry. Thanks for the warning.
