Here are some more information for Hood Filter:

Range hoods are a necessity in any kitchen. A properly installed kitchen range hood improve the cooking experience by venting hot air and cooking odors outside as well as help keep kitchen surfaces free of grease. A kitchen range hoods can also help to remove other pollutants from your kitchen air.
A good kitchen range hood is an important kitchen tool for both safety and comfort. Hood choices can range from basic ductless wall-mount units, to systems with lights, timers, and easy-clean surfaces.
Hoods come in many styles, stainless steel, tile, or paneling that matches the cabinetry in your kitchen.
An important thing to consider when choosing the right kind of kitchen range hood for your kitchen is your current ventilation system. Next would be the size, location, and the quality of the range hood that you are looking for. High tech fans are used for outsourcing fumes. Some range hoods offer great charcoal filtration others have more cost efficient have fans built in to push hot air towards your ceilings.
There are two main types of range hoods - venting and recirculating (or non-venting). A venting range hood is a bit more complicated to install in that it requires a connection to an exhaust duct. The non-venting range hood simply blows the air back into the room, and all it requires is an electrical connection. It is considered to be the most basic system but also the least efficient.
Slim-line hood designs are available which are concealed under cabinets which slide out when in use. Another kind of kitchen hood can be used as a shelf for microwaves with the venting fans underneath.
Another kind of hood design can incorporate a wall-mounted microwave above the range.
Whether it is performance or design that matters to you for the serious cook it is important to make the correct choice of kitchen range hood.
Other types of hood systems include updraft and downdraft systems. Updraft systems pull the air through a filter then vent it along ductwork to the outside. Downdraft systems are usually located on the stove top near the burners. Downdraft units use one or more fans, pulling the air through a filter into ductwork.
The hood or vent should be at least as wide as the range top. If you are designing a kitchen range hood you should select the ventilator unit first. The range hood should be designed to permit enough room for the ventilator and ductwork required to vent to the outside.
Because kitchen range hoods collect grease and filter smoke from the air, the range hoods should be cleaned frequently. Any exposed portions, including the blades and internal filters may be cleaned with sponges and soapy water and wiped dry. You should never clean with abrasive clothes or pads however. You can clean the exposed metal with an ammonia/water mixture if necessary. Metal mesh filters can be removed and soaked in a washing solution for a few minutes, then sponged, rinsed, and dried before replacing in the hood.

What are kitchen hoods and range hoods?
No matter what type of kitchen you have, kitchen hoods are absolutely necessary. They keep the smell and smoke at bay. Just by keeping your kitchen windows open, proper ventilation cannot be achieved. The steam produced in the kitchen can make the area damp and you might even spot some dirty moulds in the kitchen cabinets and racks. The kitchen range hoods are basically a fan/blower that is enclosed to reduce air pollution caused while cooking. They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes in order to meet with varied customer needs.
Kitchen hoods are of mainly two types. The ducted type model is highly effective. It expels out all the odors, gas, excess moisture and smoke through the grease filters and metal ducting. If you have the provision of external wall, the ducted type hood will be the best for you. The other type is the re-circulation hood. It draws the impure air through grease filters and then passes it through charcoal filters to purify the air. There is an opening in this type of hood to return the purified air. The grease filters that are used requires to be cleaned or changed after every 3-4 months whereas the charcoal ones, after 18 months. In apartments without external walls, re-circulation range hoods would be the perfect choice.
Kitchen hoods have many advantages. They do much more than keeping the pollutants away. As the dirty air is forced out, owing to the low pressure the fresh outdoor air takes its place that ensures a healthier living environment. There are a number of food items which are quite strong smelling, like the jackfruit. Exotic recipes of curries can be tried when you sure it leave any trace of any smell. The cabinets and kitchen racks tend to get sticky because of the excess moisture and grease; good range hoods can help getting rid of that. These hoods are also a source of light. As the hood is placed quite close to the cookware, the low voltage light is good enough for cooking purposes.
There are a few things that one must consider while buying kitchen hoods. Check out the extraction rate of the Kitchen hoods; the higher the value the better it is. Choose the fan correctly. There are generally, two types of fans i.e. the centrifugal and rotary. Though rotary is the less expensive one but centrifugal fan is much more efficient. You must see that the noise level is not too high. You can settle with the hood with a noise level between 60-65 DB. According, to the size of your room the range or length of the range hoods must be decided. A 30 inch hood for small kitchens is okay while big kitchen may require something like 38, 48 or 52 inch kitchen hoods. These days’ range hoods are available in varied colors to go well with your kitchen. One can try the colorful chimneys rather than the boring stainless steel, black or white ones. Whatever be the style, they all function in the same way.

Charcoal filter for a kitchen range hood?
I am renovating my kitchen, and relocating the piping to the outside, for the hood is a major job. Some are saying that I could use a special filter (I think charcoal filter), rather than venting it to the outside. They say that it works just as well.
If you have one of these, used them, or know about them, can you please give me some info.
This doesn't seem to make sense. The exhaust fan is there to vent smoke as well as heat and odors. There would be no point to using a charcoal filter. You'd still have smoke in your kitchen which would set off the smoke detectors.
