If you have ever wanted to press your own t-shirts with your favorite design or emblem, you will be happy to know it really is not all that difficult. As long as you have a decent heat press and follow directions carefully, you can be well on your way to creating your own t-shirts. Here are some tips on how to use a t-shirt heat press.
Before doing anything you are going to want to wash your t-shirts in cold water and dry them on high heat. Once your shirts are all ready, next you want to create a design to place on the shirt. Be creative and come up with something that will entice others.
As soon as you have your design all ready, the next step of how to use a t-shirt heat press is to use professional heat transfer paper to print the design on. It is vital you print with a color ink to get the full effects.
Now that you have your graphics all printed out, cut them carefully while trimming as close to the edges of the image as possible. To make things easier on you, use a background that has color so you can easily cut around the shape efficiently.
The next step is to set the press following the instruction for the particular type of material, transfer paper and machine that you have. In order to do this you will need to do three things; you will need to set the temperature, pressure and the time for each t-shirt. As soon as you have these set, you will be ready to start making t-shirts.
To actually get under way, place the center of an image on a t-shirt. Use some kind of alignment tool like a ruler to make sure it is completely center. Some other ways you can center your image on the shirt include folding the shirt in half lengthwise or using a t-square.
One of the last steps for how to use a t-shirt heat press is to place the image ink-side down on the t-shirt while placing them on top of the Teflon pad inside of the press. By placing the Teflon sheet on top of the shirt you will avoid having the rubber in the machine stick to the shirt. Finally, lock the press and follow the timing instructions for each heat press.
As soon as the necessary time is complete the press should unlock on its own. Follow the directions to see whether you need to have the shirt and image cool or if you should remove the transfer paper while hot. As soon as you do pull back the transfer paper, allow the shirt 24 hours to cool and dry. As long as you follow the directions carefully you will have no problem creating your own t-shirts.

Backer Paper on Heat Transfer Paper Sometimes Becomes Tinted Yellow
Why is the backer paper on my laser heat transfer tinted yellow?
With some laser printers the yellow toner migrates through the heat transfer coating and leaves the base paper with a yellow image. This can also occur with magenta as the predominant color that migrates. Which colors will migrate is laser printer/copier specific. More often all four colors leave a slight tint on the base sheet. When it is all four colors or isn't too strong it is usually not noticed or commented on. Although the printer/copier causes this to occur it is because of the heat in the transfer process that the color is driven into the base paper.
Most of the time the yellow and pink are not a problem in the finished garment. If the color on the garment is correct ignore any color on the base paper. If the color is not deep enough, gradually increase the color density. This is done with adjustments to the color with the printer driver and computer software. Since this condition is specific to each printer/copier it will occur reproducibly and once the corrective conditions are identified they can be duplicated for all prints.
Another possibility is yellow or any other color appearing outside the image area. This is known as toner scatter and can be any color including black. This is more likely to affect the appearance of the image on the garment, because white areas will have some color. This can be addressed with new cartridges if this is a new problem. Another possibility is to use a product that resists the toner scatter. TECHNI-PRINT® 4.0 was created to resist toner scatter.
Depending on the type of printer, you must choose the correct type of transfer paper in order to successfully print images on the fabric. Most t-shirt transfer paper is for inkjet printers. However, if you have a laser printer, there is iron on heat transfer paper available specifically for laser printers. It is recommended that you do not use the inkjet transfer papers in your laser printer. For best results, the fabrics must have at least 50% cotton content. Instructions must be followed carefully to achieve optimal results.
Many distributors and manufacturers carry a large selection of heat transfer products and supplies. They carry everything needed for heat transfer including inkjet and laser heat transfer papers for light and dark applications, heat transfer vinyl and foils, laser printer supplies, specialty papers, and heat press supplies.

how to transfer a image on to the silkscreen block?
I wanted to try some silkscreen printing. but i don't know how to go about to transfer the image on the silkscreen block as i do not have any light sensitive box at home. can anyone help?
If you have all the materials you can actually just use a halogen flood lamp as your light source. Just the exposure time will have to be longer. You need to use a good heavy peice of glass to hold down your image while it is being exposed. Hope this helps. If not...message me.
