Here are some more information for Interchangeable Lenses:

Nikon actually has two cameras in the "beginning DSLR" category. There is the brand new Nikon D3000 and the older brother, the Nikon D5000.
There are a few reasons for an avid point and shoot camera owner to select the Nikon D5000 rather than the D3000.
- First, the D5000 has HD video capability. The other model does not have video. DSLR camera manufacturers have just begun to include the video capability in their DSLR cameras. And while the D3000 is a newer release, it does not have video.
- Another reason to select the D5000 is the LCD panel, which is an articulating screen. It tilts and swivels to allow you to take photos from awkward positions and still be able to see the image before you snap the shutter.
- Yet another advantage of the D5000 is "Live View". This is a feature that is common to point and shoot cameras, but it is not available on all DSLRs... yet. Live View is simply being able to see the image on the LCD panel without having to look through the Viewfinder. You can also select creative scene modes while using Live View - another advantage not available on the D3000.
- Finally, the image sensor is larger on the Nikon D5000. It sports a 12.3 megapixel sensor as opposed to a 10 megapixel sensor on its younger brother.
There are other differences between these two cameras, but the ones listed will probably be more of interest to current point and shoot owners who are making the move up to their first DSLR.
The one advantage of the D3000 is price. There is about a $130 price difference between the two cameras. They both take the same quality image, and both are capable of interchangeable lenses, so if the factors mentioned are not enough to convince you that the Nikon D5000 is worth the extra $$$, then by all means get the Nikon D3000.

Types of Digital Camera Lenses
There are a choice range of digital camera lenses to choose from when it comes to getting a few for your camera. The lenses are broadly classified into 2 types usually; the fixed focal length lens and the variable focal length lens. The fixed focal length lens means that if you want to magnify your object, the only way you can do it is by moving closer to your object. When it comes to variable focal length lenses, commonly known as zoom lenses, there are a number of lens types to choose from. Digital camera lenses need to be carefully selected based on your photographic requirement. They should serve the focal requirements while being within certain standards of quality.
The standard camera lens is the most basic lens and is sufficient for most day-to-day photographic pursuits. This lens is usually built in the camera, with interchange ability for an additional lens in most, higher end professional digital cameras. The commonly used additional lenses include the wide angle lens. The wide angle lens gives a wide angle or panoramic view of the object. This is usually used for very large object areas like scenery and gives great field depth and a wide sweeping perspective. Telephoto lens is quite the opposite of wide angle lens and narrow down the view for exclusive focus on distant objects. It is most commonly used at sporting events and nature. Close up pictures that need to be taken very close to the object, can be taken with the help of macro lenses, which give really sharp focussing at a really short distance.

Are lenses from film SLR and digital SLR cameras interchangeable? I have pentax MZ50 at the moment?
I currently have a pentax MZ50 film camera and want to start using a digital camera too. Not sure what camera to get, but thats another question....
What I have heard is that some digi cameras can use film lenses is that right? They are expensive so it would be great to use the same lenses for film and digi camera. thanks in advance!
As long as the film SLR and digital SLR are both Pentax, yes, the lenses are interchangeable. You will have to allow for the digital sensor being smaller than film, however. On a digital camera, the lenses magnify more than they do on a film camera, usually about 1.5X or 1.6X. For example, a 50mm lens on a dSLR would magnify like a 75mm or 80mm lens on a film camera.
