Here are some more information for Lens Reflex:
Lens Reflex

Digital SLR comes from digital single lens reflex, which is named this way because of the mirror that sits behind the lens of the camera and sends the light to the viewfinder.

The digital SLR's are designed in such a way that you can use a lot of different lenses, with different focal lengths. This versatility is the reason why digital SLR cameras are so popular among professionals. When you're using a camera that is not a SLR, you need to match the angle of the viewing lens with the angle of view. If you're doing short-range zoom or you have a fixed lens, then it's OK, but at different focal lengths it can be much more difficult. The SLR is better because the viewing and taking lens are the same.

While entry level digital SLR cameras don't always have Live View, advanced models usually do, and they let you compose the photos just like you do with a snapshot camera. The basic models will lock the mirror, and the prism will divert the image towards a sensor that is small. Then, instead of sending it to a capture sensor, it will be sent to the LCD screen, which can take down the performance a bit. If you're getting an older model you might need to focus on the image manually when you are in Live View, though contrast autofocus is available in newer digital cameras.

Digital SLR Camera Types

Digital SLR With Interchangeable-lens

These models are those considered as SLR's by most people. They're also the ones that we'll be talking about in this article. Just like the name says, in these SLR cameras you can change their lenses. This way you're able to switch from a supertelephoto lens to an ultra wide angle.

Examples: Basically, most digital SLR cameras that are sold today belong to this type.

Digital SLR With Fixed Lens

On these digital SLR's, the versatility is limited by the fact that you can't change the default lens. The mirror that bounces the light towards the viewfinder is nonmoving and semi-transparent in most of these models.

One example of a camera with fixed lens is the Olympus E-20N

Camera similar to SLR's

Cameras that look like digital SLR cameras are usually digicams that have either an optical finder or a small LCD. You can't consider them as digital SLR cameras since the mirror is missing, and the quality of the photos isn't even close to what you can do with a true SLR. Usually, this type of camera has a very long zoom, and another name for them is magazooms or ZLRs.

Getting the best SLR camera, is never an easy thing, due to the constantly changing technology. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the DSLR camera with all the features important to you.

How Using A Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera Can Give You High Quality Digital Photographs

Going back a few years the photographic options available were certainly nothing like what is on offer these days in fact the entire digital range is going so fast that it is almost too difficult to keep track of what is hot and what is not.

The compact digital camera was the first to hit the marketplace and has since made quite a name for itself with many different manufacturers and variations, but the real icing on the cake is found in the DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) range...

With any innovation or progress there is always the tendency by many to dismiss getting involved or proclaiming old school methods are more practical and effective. However in the case of digital photography it appears that most of those who have a taste tend to get involved. This is mainly down to the ease of use and fast high quality results that can be viewed or even printed off almost immediately.

Stepping away from the compact camera for a second, how easy is it to use and become familiar with a DSLR camera? The basic answer is a lot simpler than people might initially think, but to offer some deeper explanation means understanding exactly what one is capable and can produce picture-wise for the complete novice.

It is fair and true to say that virtually anyone can pick up one of these technologically evolved image capturing devices and be able to take high quality desirable pictures within a very short period of time. The main reason for this is that most DSLR manufacturers realise that to make progress they had to come up with a product that could be comfortably used by most people even those without any previous photographic experience. With the digital camera they are certainly onto a winner in that respect.

Most standard DSLR cameras are in two main sections, the body or case and the lens. The lenses are interchangeable so the user can pick and install the best lens for any specific shot that they might be trying to take. The major feature which can turn pretty much anyone into a budding photographer is the fully automatic feature and they really are fully automatic. Automatic ISO settings and aperture, automatic focus all you do is zoom in and out, the camera even decides if it needs to use the flash and pops it up if it does.

Not just fully automatic, but fully automatic with quality results. Most people who use a DSLR camera for the very first time can hardly believe that they even took the pictures that they are looking at, they are generally that good.

So a complete novice can pick one up, turn it on, point, zoom and click for a top notch quality picture every time, but it does not end there. This is just the beginning of the fulfilling journey available to all DSLR camera owners. Once comfortable with learning from the automatic functions on board their camera, there are the manual features and settings to investigate and incorporate into our photographic efforts.

At this point the world of digital photography just keeps getting bigger and bigger and with a little understanding and persistence these amazing cameras produce results that are almost hard to believe.

So although something can appear so complex on the outside it is not until we pick it up and start to use it for ourselves that we discover the true lack of complexities that are actually involved.

Digital photography is virtually sweeping across the globe with an almost viral velocity and with good reason. Not only is it great fun to take high quality pictures, but it is also a good way for modern day expression. Virtually everyone knows someone who is either involved, getting involved or knows of someone else that is getting or is involved with digital photography. If it was too difficult it would be an activity purely reserved for the professionals.

What lens should I choose with Nikon D80?

I'm planning to buy a Nikon D80 which comes either comes with a 18-70mm lens or with a 18-135mm lens. My question is, since I already have a Nikkor AF 28-85mm lens that I use with my analog reflex camera, which one of these lenses should I choose?

I originally wanted to buy the Nikon D80 in its "body only" version but a salesperson told me that since my lens was non-digital the values printed on the lens would not be true to what I'm getting with my analog reflex.

Any ideas? Thanks!

The 18-70 and the 18-135 cost about the same. Between the two, I'd pick the 18-70. It offers better image quality and better build quality. The 18-135 has a plastic lens mount, for example.
The 'problem' with your 28-85, is that it effectively becomes 42-128mm on a Nikon digital SLR. All Nikon dSLR cameras have a 1.5 focal length multiplier, from the humble D40 all the way to the D2Xs. The lens will continue to work just fine however, so if you can live with 42-128 as your standard lens on the D80, just keep your current zoom and buy the D80 'body only'.
The 18-70 is effectively 27-105mm
The 18-135 is effectively 27-203mm
Both of these DX lenses are specifically made for digital bodies and should not be used on your film body. They won't damage your film body, but they project a smaller image circle, making them pretty useless.
