What happens when I wear my contact lens for too long?

I have plastic contact lenses that I'm supposed to wear for a month before replacing them. I take them out at night, etc.

What would happen instead of wearing them for one month, I wear them for two months? Would I start going blind, etc?

I wore contacts for years and due to the amount of time I wore them each day I developed an eye infection. Now I can no longer wear them at all. Please wear them for a month, throw them away and open a new pair. You cannot replace your eyesight.
