How to make a magic lantern?

I need to make a magic lantern for a communications class project, and i was wondering if anyone had any plans on how to make such an object. An example of what i need to make can be found at http://chestofbooks.com/home-improvement/woodworking/Handicraft-For-Boys/How-to-Make-a-Magic-Lantern.html the only problem with this design is that my project is due friday so i cant get the lenses they are talking about. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd thought that any regular camera lens could be used for making things like this (parlor tricks, primitive camera projection thingies, in a dark room), but perhaps try this one instead:
