Here are some more information for Manuals Manual:

There is no one easy way of parenting. With that said; you will notice there are different styles of parenting. Yes, I said, different styles. However, the most recent labels are a bit alarming. What labels? Perhaps you have heard of helicopter parenting, stealth parenting and even over-protective parenting. What ever happened to merely, Simple Parenting? Yes, another label but one that is easy enough to understand.
Too often as first time parents or even after the second or third child we wish there was a 'magical' parenting manual. Notice I refer to this manual as 'magical'? That's simply because it does not exist! And quite honestly if it did, we would still need help. Why? Because parenting is quite unique.
If you have more than one child, you understand that every child is different. Even if you only have one child you understand that every child is different. What works for one child, may not work for another and mainly because we as humans are ALL different. So a manual would not be beneficial. Sure, it would help with general concepts such as what to expect when your child is teething or the color of their stool, but even that differs.
Which leads me to parenting styles. Amazing how there are styles now. Were these so-called styles evident when we were growing up or when our parents where children? What ever happened to instilling morals and values? Again we can blame society, music, television, schools, and media as a whole, but ultimately we as parents are responsible for our own parenting. Notice how I used the word - responsible. This is the main concept that must be taught and continued to be taught in our families.
Another method of learning or teaching for that matter is by experience. There's only so much we can do as parents. We can teach them that the stove is hot, but sometimes they must feel the pain in order to learn. Before you roll your eyes at that comment, think back to your own childhood. As a child, I remember my sister burning her eyebrows off because she forgot she had turned on the oven and lit a match. (Gas stove/oven when I was growing up and the pilot light was always blowing off) Did she learn from that experience? You betcha! How about climbing trees barefoot and losing your grip and falling. Can you say 'ouch'? But guess what? We quickly learned to wear shoes next time. The point is that we as parents can't simply 'hover' over children in hopes to keep them safe. Instead we must teach them, explain to them and allow them to them make informed decisions.
Before the hate mail begins, let me make myself perfectly clear. Our responsibility as parents is to love, nurture, teach and prepare our children for adulthood. It is our responsibility to teach them from right and wrong and allow them to make mistakes. Yes, mistakes! After all don't we learn from our mistakes? Our children and no one for that matter is perfect and by hovering and over protecting we are simply sheltering our children and making them susceptible to pain. A pain that a band-aid won't heal. Coming from a household that was extremely over-protective to the point of insanity, did not prepare me for adulthood. Let's not repeat the same with our children.
There is a happy medium to it all. The learning process does not end when our children turn 18, actually it becomes tougher. Instead of playing the blame game, get involved! Ask questions. Learn from those who have come before you. Yes, retro parenting is effective. Going retro means moving forward but also implementing some of the goodness that worked back then and applying it today. Sorry for rambling on, but the entire concept of 'helicopter parenting' was something that needed to be addressed.
Am I the 'perfect' parent? Hardly! But I am one that continues to ask questions, talk to my children, teach them and learn from them. Together we can work at this parenting phenomenon and actually may survive with little scars. Scars are necessary but do we really need to be there every time our child falls?
