Here are some more information for Nikkor Manual:

For six years, I've been loyal to using my Canon PowerShot point-and-shoot compact digital camera because it's small, lightweight, and very portable. I've taken thousands of great shots with my PowerShot as I've taken it with me on my travels and practically everywhere I went. However, I think I've reached the point where I want to take my love for photography and taking pictures by getting a digital SLR camera.
So I started reading and going through tons of user reviews for digital SLR cameras, and I've narrowed my choices down to Sony A300 and the Nikon D60. I went to several stores to get comparisons of these two cameras until I finally settled on the D60. Why? The Nikon SLR digital camera felt more lightweight than the Sony A300 and the LCD menu or user interface was more user-friendly and intuitive. In addition to that, the D60 supports Nikkor lenses which are among the best in the market. I knew that I would later on branch out and get more lenses so I went for the D60.
I got my D60 from Amazon because of their 30-day price match policy. This means that if the price of your camera lowers within 30 days upon purchase, you can email Amazon and they will credit you with the price difference. In my case, the D60's going price went down thrice after I bought it, and Amazon quickly gave me a refund for the three times the price decreased. I recommend you do the same thing, just make sure you keep a constant watch on the price of your camera.
The D60 is easy to use, and a major bonus is how light it feels. The kit lens with vibration reduction or VR balances well with the body of camera so the weight of the lens doesn't cause the camera to point down. With 10.2 megapixel capacity and a bundled 18-55mm AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens, the D60 is able to come out with great, high-quality shots. I also like that the D60 works very well even in low-light settings, regardless of whether you use a flash or not. The quality of the pictures I get is far superior than those I used to get with my compact digital camera.
Another reason why I went for the D60 was its intuitive LCD menu. If you press the right button while moving the mode dial, you will see a brief description of what each mode is about and what it does - something that is extremely useful for a first-time SLR camera user like me. The manual is pretty extensive, although if you want a more detailed guide book, you can buy a separate one from bookstores. I recommend the D60-specific guide book by David Busch.
Getting the perfect camera, is never an easy thing, especially with the way digital technology is constantly changing. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the camera with all the features important to you.

Using Nikkor AF lens on a Nikon D-40?
I want to purchase a Nikon D-40 camera. I have 3 Nikkor AF lens. I understand that they should fit the D-40 and work in manual focus only. Has anybody tried these types of lens on a D-40 and do they render nice images in digital. Thanks for your feed back!!
They should render great images in digital, in fact, perhaps better than on film. There's one caveat (aside form them being manual focus only) - their focal lengths will not work same way as on film. While actual focal length (for purpose of depth of field, bokeh and aperture) will be the same, the coverage will be as if the lenses were 1.5x the actual focal length. So a 28-80 lens will effectively become 42-120, and so on.. So you may consider a kit 18-55 lens to get wide angle coverage...
This is also why it may end up rendering better images for you. Because those 35mm lenses project a wider circle of light than DX lenses dedicated for digital, only a central part of these images will be seen by sensor, and most lenses are the sharpest and have the fewest distortions in the center, than on the sides. Hence you'll be capturing the better part of the image, leaving less-attractive looking parts out of the frame.
One thing for you to consider. If the lenses you have are really great and expensive ones, and it seems that you came from 35mm world, so you know a few things about cameras and using them - you may consider a D80 body, which will take full advantage of those great lenses, including autofocus. Of course D80 is a lot more money, and more heavy and bulky, but if you one day grow tired of having to focus manually and will start investing in AF-S lenses (ones that autofocus on D40), you may end up spending more money than if you got a body that goes well with your lenses to begin with...
Last but not least, you didn't say which lenses you have, so... here's a link for you to find them, and read all about their compatibility with modern digital bodies. Check it out before you invest, just to make sure (you can skip the lyrics and go right to the tables, if you just want a quick answer or read it all to learn all you ever wanted to know about Nikon lenses):
