A light meter, or exposure meter, is a device used to measure the amount of light in an environment. Light meters are most commonly used by photographers. Usually, the information provided by the expsoure meter is used by a photographer to determine the exposure time for their photographs. Your photography light meter will take into account your film speed, shutter speed, and aperture settings. It will use this information to calculate the recommended exposure settings for your photograph. Knowing how to use a light sensor and to interpret its output are essential skills for every photographer to master. There are two primary types of light meters available on the market today: reflected-expsoure and incident-light meters. Reflected-light meters measure the amount of light reflected by the scene to be photographed. This type of light meter is commonly used in in-camera light meters. As reflected-light meters are calibrated only to determine the exposure settings for average scenes, they can be confused by complex or atypical scenes. In unusual scenes with a predominance of light colors or specular highlights, a reflected-light meter would provide an incorrect reading and would not provide accurate exposure settings.

Incident-expsoure meters, on the other hand, measure the amount of light falling on a subject. They accomplish this by means of a spherical light sensor which the photographer places by the subject. This way, the reflectivity of the subject doesn't confuse the sensor and it is able to provide the photographer with an accurate light reading. Incident-expsoure meters have their own limitations; that is, they cannot be used in scenes in which the subject is at infinity. For this reason, landscapes are best read with a reflected-light meter. Many reflected-expsoure meters can be used to take basic incident-light readings by placing them near the subject, facing the camera.

The first step in using an exposure meter is setting the film speed, or ISO. This is usually accomplished by rotating a dial on the body of the meter. Electric models may replace this dial with buttons. The film speed determines how quickly the film reacts to light. If you are using a reflected-light meter, then point it at your subject in the direction of your camera's lens. If you are shooting a scene with high contrast, then take an incident-light reading by placing your meter near your subject, facing your camera. This will ensure that strong whites and blacks are preserved. Your light meter will provide a suggested shutter-speed, which you then dial into your film or digital camera.

You don't need a special camera for posting images on MySpace. Any digital camera will do.
These are two completely different cameras. The Kodak is a digital camera and the Olympus is a 35mm FILM camera.

A digital camera is the easiest type of camera to use, because you can upload images right after your shoot them. If they aren't quite right, then you can delete the bad ones and then reshoot till you get it right.

Whereas with a film camera, you have to buy the film, then get it developed and then hope your images all turned out. If not, you will have to buy more film, get it developed and then hope once again that the images turned out...and so on and so on...
