The Beatles Non-Album Songs

These days most bands put all of their best songs onto their albums and they definitely include their hit singles on their albums! But in the 1960s The Beatles actually thought it was "cheating their fans" to put their hit singles on their albums (they figured their fans already bought those singles.) 

This may be a foreign concept today, but at the time it made sense. But the key point is that many of The Beatles greatest hits (along with some really cool b-sides) never made it onto their albums.

The CD Era

In the late 1980s The Beatles had their catalog pressed onto CD and to solve the problem of the non-album songs the "Past Masters" compilations were created. There was a volume one which included earlier songs like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" & "She Loves You" and there was a volume two which included later songs such as "Hey Jude" and the fast radio single version of "Revolution" (which is much different than the slower version heard on The White Album.) 

The Beatles Remastered Box Sets

On September 9 of 2009 The Beatles entire catalog was re-released on CD. Remastered (for far superior sound) versions of their stereo mixes were made available both for individual purchase and as a part of a Beatles Stereo Box Set, while the original mono mixes for their first 10 albums were made available only as a part of a Beatles Mono Box Set.

Mono Masters

The Mono Masters double disc compilation mirrors the Past Masters double disc compilation found in the Stereo Box Set. The big difference is, of course, that the Mono Masters set includes the mono mixes while the Past Masters set includes the stereo mixes. Another difference is the Mono Masters set is only available as a part of the Mono Box Set, not for individual purchase.

Differences

There are some differences in tracklisting because the band stopped mixing in mono towards the end of their career so there were no mono mixes of some of their songs to include. Also the Mono Masters version includes the four new Beatles songs ("It's All Too Much," "Hey Bulldog," "All Together Now," & "Only a Northern Song") that were on the Yellow Submarine album because the album as a whole (maybe because the George Martin instrumentals were only recorded in stereo? I'm not sure) was not included as a part of the Mono Box Set.

Buy The Beatles Mono Masters as a part of The Beatles Mono Box Set. This set is not available for individual purchase nor are any of the other discs in the Mono Box Set.

The Origin of Pidgin and Creole: Polygenesis Versus Monogenesis Theory

Among an array of the theories of the pidgin and creole languages of the world

assumed, discussed, confirmed and dismissed by the international sociolinguists either

this time or the other, the polygenesis and monogenesis theories pose counter ratification

to be behind the sociolingustic phenomenon of the world observed by almost all the

sociolinguists as expressed by Ronald Wardhaugh (1986) in his book “An Introduction to

Sociolingustics” (72) that “Pidgins from very different parts of the world exhibit remarkable similarities in structures even when the standard languages they are associated with are quite

different. Furthermore, pidgins and creoles based on the same standar language but found in places far distant from one another may have a high degree of intelligibility, e.g., the various pidginized and creolized varieties of French found geographically as far apart as the Carribean , the Indian Ocean ,and the South

Pacific.”

The antonymous polygenesis and monogenesis theories of the origin of pidgins and

creoles of the world are derived from the anthropological and linguistic concepts of

polygenism and monogenism of races and languages of the world. The advocates of polygenesis theories subscribe to the hypothesis of multiplicity of origins of the pidgins

and creoles of the world, a generated reflection of the polygenetic hypothesis of the

multiple origins of the languages of the world .For instance, if we suppose for the time

being that Bangla has somehow got the necessitated status of being the intermediary

basic linguistic means of trade and commerce in a number of disparate regions of the

world far from each other, the simplified pidginized forms of it could be distinct from

each other firstly because of their distant existences and then because of their association

with the varied indigenous languages.

However, the inevitable critical inquiry comes regarding the base language (here, let

us wishfully suppose that it is Bangla)to be the ultimate single origin of all the pidgins

and creoles generated from Bangla in distant parts of the world. Thus, the monogenesis

hypothesis conquers over the polygenesis hypothesis to be the substantiated theory of

origin of pidgins and creoles of the world.

The monogenesis theory of pidgin and creole postulates that pidgins and creoles of the

world can be traced back to a single origin like the monogenetic theory of world

language. “In linguistics, monogenism refers to the theory that all languages derive from

a single Proto-World language, as opposed to the view that language may have evolved

independently on more than one occasion”(Wikipedia). Therefore, “the quest to discover a common origin for pidgins and creoles –that is the quest for a monogenesis theory of

origin rather than a polygenesis theory –is now a serious one”(Wardhaugh 74).Likewise,

there must have been a proto-pidgin from which all the pidgin and creoles of the world

are originated and distributed in different parts of the world. For example, Bangla could have been the supposed proto-pidgin for all the probable pidginized and creolized pairs of

Bangla and other local languages of the distant parts of the world.

In fact, beside the parallelism of the Biblical assumption of the origin of the genesis of human races and the monogenesis theory of world languages ,the monogenesis theory of

pidgins and creoles of the world earns its due natural position of the general acceptance

(ensuring the disconfirmation of the polygenesis theory)of the sociolinguists.

Is Lana Lang (Smallville) a part of the original Superman comics?

My family and I are wondering where lana comes into all of this. I thought it was all about Lois and Clark? Is she really Lex's wife in the comic book series?

Lana Lang first appeared in Superboy issue #10 back in 1950 they where childhood friends / sweethearts. If I remember she knew early on that Clark had superhuman abilities. When Clark decided to leave Smallville for Metropolis he wanted her to go w/ him but she refused...they haven't seen each other for decades. When Superman's deeds became known through out Metropolis Lana knew it was Clark.
Lex was following Superman's appearances and he happened upon Lana visiting Clark at his apartment one day. He kidnapped her and tortured her...thinking she had information about Superman she told him nothing and returned to Smallville. Lana learned about Lois & Clark and eventually married Pete Ross since she knew that Clark had found his 'true love.'
I've never known Lana and Lex as husband and wife in the comics...why would she, after he tourted her?....but hell he tourted her in the TV series, and they married, why not just carry on the tradition.
