Here are some more information for Plastic Lomo:

Lomo cameras have continued to increase in popularity in recent years. It was not long ago that you could pick up a good condition Lomo LCA camera up from an auction site or thrift store for just a few dollars. Nowadays their popularity has meant that you will now have to pay several hundred dollars to get the same camera, even second hand.
The high prices have made more and more people look for a decent Lomo alternative. The requirements are simple: which compact film camera is armed with a nice sharp, wide lens that produces the tell tale vignette and contrasty colors that have become the trademark of the Lomo LCA?
Well have searching far and wide I have found what I believe to be a great alternative to the lomo lca, the Olympus XA2. This camera has a better quality lens than the Lomo - producing much sharper images. It hails form the 1980's and when it was released was revolutionary in it's design.
The body has the same retro look as the lomo and is also cased in a metal shell giving it a good sturdy feel to it. The best bit about this is that despite the camera going out of production many years ago the build quality means there are still plenty of cheap versions for sale. You can usually pick one up of internet auction sites for a few dollars.
The real beauty of the XA2 comes when you shoot using color slide film and have it cross processed as regular color negative film. The results you end up with vary depending on the type of film used however you tend to end up with heavily saturated colors - the Lomo signature if you like.
The camera that I use as an alternative to the Lomo LCA is the Olympus XA2 Just follow this link for a more in depth review of the XA2.
Other than lomo cameras, are there other cameras with the same effect?
I don't want a plastic camera. I'm thinking of getting something more reliable and i was wondering if there were any cameras that specifically had vignette or light leak effects. My friend has a Pentax Spotmatic and it has similar effects so i was also wondering if that camera would be one that has such effects. When she uses Fuji Superia 400 it seems to have the most exaggerated lomo effect, but she still gets it with other film. Is it something she does? Is her camera defective? Or was the Pentax Spotmatic built for the effect?
I have a nikon f-301 already and i was also wondering if i could get the same effect without buying another camera.
You won't get the vignetting with a good lens and camera like your Nikon, but shooting in medium to low light (indoors next to a window), you can shoot with the aperture wide open (small f/stop number) and get a very shallow depth of field. This effect will put part of your subject in focus, like the subjects face, while leaving the background and perhaps parts of the subjects body out of focus. You can also try creating the soft vignette look by putting a UV or Skylight filter over your lens and smearing a bit of petroleum jelly on it, leaving a clean spot in the center of the lens. I've also seen this effect done with a bit of plastic food wrap with a hole cut in the center.
There's also lensbaby, which is a lens made to mimic the toy camera look.
Speaking as someone who likes to use cheap plastic cameras, part of the sensibility of using low-fidelity, low-tech cameras is the fact that with their simplicity and unpredictability, one can create beautiful images.
