My polaroid camera is taking longer to take pictures? Please help!?

I bought a polaroid camera (Autofocus 660) back in February online, and since then have only bought two packs of film. I'm up to my second pack of film with three pictures left to take. Just a couple of days ago, I was taking a photo and it was taking longer to capture. It usually takes around 8-10 seconds to take, however now im finding it more than 10 seconds to take. Today, I was trying to take a photo and usually a red light pops up when looking through the viewfinder, but it didn't. It also didn't make that sort of humming sound it usually makes when taking a picture. The picture didn't take. The film expired back in september last year, so could this have something to do with the battery dying out, or is there something wrong with my camera?

The batteries which power the camera are in the film pack, an yes, they're probably dead or dying. Polaroid instant film was discontinued in Oct, 2008.
