About slide scanners in short
Regardless of the fact that a flatbed scanner may be used for this purpose, a dedicated photo scanner has its own significance and makes the procedure for storing and printing images faster. If you use a dedicated film and slide scanner makes scanning and transferring those precious images to your computer easier and quicker.
Different types of Slide Scanners
These days, Photo Slide Scanners apart from just different designs and models comes with manufacturer's software too. The importance of a scanning software can not be overlooked as, it is the software that allows you to edit, save and store your pictures to your system. Basic types of scanners include the flatbed scanner that's competent to scan documents and images and the dedicated slide scanner which is the subject of our article.
Photo slide scanners manufactured by reputed manufacturers, e.g. Polaroid, Nikon and HP, and vary from moderate to high prices, in line with your requirements and preference. If you are looking to purchase a scanner, your basic guide on making a choice must be around the requirements you are interested in from it. If you wish to rehabilitate old slides and family pictures then a mid price item should do the job well enough. A good start could be online with comparison chart that reveals price, models and a basic comparison of features.
Using slide scanner
Scanner comes with the software, so all you need to do is - insert the CD in your CD drive to begin working with your images. Once the software CD is loaded you have to open the file and choose the source or type of scan, in case you are working with slides for example, you simply click the positive color film and the scan will start. While scanning you will see a preview of the imagewhich can be edited before you complete the scan, if you are not pleased with the image.
Care should be taken to see that the images you're going to scan are free from dust. Decide on how you are going to categorize your images e.g. by date or subject as this makes them easier to locate after they have been scanned and stored. You may also sort the images with thickness then scan as it eliminates the necessity to change the settings often.
Ensure the resolution settings are at 300 dpi, for your 35mm slide scanner to obtain the best picture. Do not forget with the increase in resolution, time taken to scan also will be more. In case you are only scanning small files they can be saved as BMP on a PC and TIF if you are using a Mac. However, large files must be saved as TIF be it Mac or Windows PC.

Concept Gadgets in 2009: the See-through Internet Tablet
There are many gadgets around to choose from at the moment, some are very useful, others are more gimmicky but from looking at the gadgets coming out, the technology that is emerging is fascinating and very impressive. Take for example the Polaroid Pogo that has quite recently come out, this gadget allows users to connect the gadget wirelessly via Bluetooth to their mobile phone or computer for example and then to print out any photographs that they have saved. The Pogo prints the pictures onto credit card sized pieces of paper, which can also act as stickers, using laser technology. As well as this being cost effective it also means that you won’t have to be constantly refilling ink cartridges. It is amazing to think that Polaroid came out with the first instant camera in 1947 and is still re-inventing it to this day. However, the Polaroid Pogo is out now and you could go shopping tomorrow and buy one but there are many more ideas that may not be in the shops yet but that are non-the-less still very impressive and could be more than just concepts sooner than you may think. One such design is for a very impressive internet tablet that will have; a touch-screen, scanner, built in camera, WiFi, Google Maps, Google Search and Image Search. When using Image Search on this device, you will be able to hold up the device to a building and get an image search result straight away. Using Image Search, you can even locate a building, touch a floor and then get a lot more information on the building and also that particular floor. However, it isn’t just buildings that you can find out more about, you can search for a variety of things, including; car models, the type of food served at a restaurant, names of insects and even information such as; who built a certain bridge. On top of all of this, the internet tablet allows you to use the scanner to check the meaning of words in a book, magazine or newspaper article. Theses features are all very useful and would no doubt appeal to a variety of different people in different lines of work. This device is still only a concept but if you are in search of a new internet enabled device it may be worth your while shopping online and comparing the prices of different laptops or netbooks.
The Polaroid Pogo is available to buy at the moment and you go out shopping tomorrow to buy one, unfortunately, the see-through internet tablet is still just a concept. If you are looking for a new internet enabled device now, it may be worth shopping online for offers on laptops and netbooks.
About the Author
i wanted to purchase polaroid film for a gift, but wasn't sure what type of film to purchase?
i'm not sure if there is a certain type of film used to certain cameras, or if it even matters. if it does matter, the name of the camera is the polaroid spectra instant camera.
Detailed info for all Spectra cameras at the Land List
http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landdcam-spec.htm
You want Spectra film. Not the 600 integral or any of the 6XX style pack films. Polaroid does not make film any more, but you can often find it (for ridiculously high prices) at eBay or sometimes even random Amazon sellers.
