can i use one power supply for motherboard and another one to power dvd drive and hard disk?

Currently using a power supply 480 w to power ( motherboard , 2 hard disks and 2 dvd drives) . I was planning to use my old power supply 400 W to power my 2 hard disks and 2 dvd drives.

Highly UNrecommended. If you try it, make sure the two supplies are isolated with respect to the 110VAC line (they normally are), and provide a common ground to the two supplies' outputs. (Connect the black wires.)

Be advised this is an experiment in terror. Your mom would not approve. Best to get an adequately rated supply for the system!
