Review Of The Sony Cyber-Shot Dsc-W220

There is a wide range of affordable digital camera options available for under $200.  One good choice is the digital Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W220.

The Sony Cyber-shot is a 12-megapixel digital camera with 4x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD screen.  Weighing in at just over five ounces and measuring less than one inch in depth, the Cyber-shot is lightweight and compact.  It is available in several colors, including pink and blue, and runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery that lasts up to 370 shots.  It offers solid performance with a 1.6 second startup time and 0.5 second shutter lag. 

The Sony Cyber-shot offers more features than some of its competitors, but the menu can be a tad difficult to use.  The mode dial is crowded with options and can be challenging to navigate at times.  The Sony Cyber-shot provides good photo quality, especially at under ISO 200.  Photo quality starts to deteriorate around ISO 400.  The Cyber-shot W220 offers only VGA video capture, not HD like some other models in this line, and does not allow for optical zoom while recording video. 

Overall, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W220 is a good choice for those who don't want to spend the money for a digital camera with added features that will not likely use.  Other models in the Sony line offer better performance and extra options, but the Cyber-shot W220 remains a good choice for beginners who don't need (or want) those bonus features.  It is a good option for the price.

Sony cyber-shot DSC-W30 is there a good add on lense?

I have a Sony cyber-shot DSC-W30, can i purchase a telephoto lense for it so that I can get better shots of my sons soccer games??

You'll need the conversion lens adapter:

After you get this, your options are:
1.7x tele-converter:

As long as you have the adapter, any 30mm conversion lens will fit onto it. Sony doesn't make bad glass so if you can afford it it's probably the best way to go. One thing with these teleconverters: you'll probably be using the telephoto end exclusively when you have one on because zooming out will cause some extreme vignetting.

Push the slider on the bottom so that the focal length indicates 38mm or something close: this is the widest your camera goes. Now slide the scale over to 114mm: this is the maximum zoom for your camera.

Now, push the slider to approximately 194mm: this is what you'll get with the 1.7x teleconverter. Move the slider to 296mm: this is approximately what you'll get with a 2.6x converter.
