How to test stainless steel by using a magnet ?
I am buying a grill. The advisor suggests buyijng stainless steel of frame
". Is it all stainless steel (try using a magnet)?"
But How do I tell difference when putting the magnet on a cast iron or painted stainless steel ? or aluminium ?
Thanks
To all:
Hi Guys, Thank you all. I clicked one porint up for all of you taking time to answer.
I'd often heard of using a magnet to discern stainless. However, the few times I had an opportunity to test it, I found that a magnet was indeed attracted to stainless steel.
I asked a welder about this, and after a lot of talk of alloys and processes which I frankly didn't understand, I essentially came away with the understanding that magnetism isn't a definitive test for stainless steel.
I did a little surfing and found the following that skims the surface of this subject (do a little yourself and you'll find there is a lot to know about stainless steel).
