Face painting is the cause of amusement for kids, including girls and boys. Face-painting is usually done on special events like birthdays, festivals, sport events and other special occasions. Face-painting is not really a compulsion, but it serves as fun enhancer for the kids.

An important factor that should always be considered is that not any available paint or material can be applied on the face of the kids. Paints having the label of non-toxic are not meant for the sensitive skin of children, as they cause allergies and redness on skin. Paints should be chosen that are only meant for face painting. Paints available in pots or crayon form must be used for face-painting. Kids should be wearing old t-shirts so that they may not worry about spoilage of clothes. Paint should not be applied near eyes.

Face-painting can be made easier and fun-generating by following certain ideas. Before the face-painting activity, all the face-painting materials should be available like markers, paper, and mirrors. Then, the subject for the face-painting should be chosen such as colourful pictures, funny cartoons or creative designs.

Kids should be divided into groups. They can choose partners of their own choices. Face painting ideas can be desirable if children make rough sketches on a paper first. This may be time consuming, but children will be clear with the concept of face painting themselves. After the paperwork, one partner should start painting the face of the other partner.

Kids like to use accessories like stickers, colourful make-up material and tattoos. Children should be allowed to paint freely without any restrictions. Children should select stickers and colours for self-generated designs. After the painting is complete, allow the partners to see the mirror. An opportunity should be given to the artist to show the painting to others as well.

Some kids like putting temporary tattoos on their skin; they are easily available at very low prices. Tattoos are very much enjoyed by kids; they should be allowed to have fun with tattoos as well. Kids like to have tattoos on their arms, ankles, wrist and cheeks. Tattoos can be easily removed by applying cold cream and wiping it with a tissue.

Kids should be given creative ideas to paint by the parents; they can be given common themes that they are familiar with, like flowers, animals or cartoons. Other children should be involved by guessing what the artist has painted. Parents of children can add more fun for the children by taking snaps, either with Polaroid camera or with digital camera.

Face painting should be encouraged by giving prizes like eatable items, paints and colouring books. You should help kids in painting by identifying the artist in them. There are some children who feel that they are not good at drawing or painting. These children should be allowed to copy designs from magazines or from a colouring book. This would motivate them to take part in this activity, which will increase their confidence in painting skills.
