You have just purchased your Canon digital camcorder. Accessories are likely to be your next purchase. Various Canon digital camcorder accessories are must-haves, while others are totally optional. Not every accessory you need with your new camcorder is going to be included in the box. Here are a few things great accessories you want to make sure you pick up when you buy a new camcorder.
Canon digital camcorder Accessories - Cables
Even at present's wireless world, every digital camcorder still needs its share of cables. You must buy an AC power adapter to keep your batteries charged. This cable is non-negotiable if you have a camcorder you need a power cord.
An optional cable you should consider buying is a mini plug that will connect your digital camcorder directly to a TV or VCR. This cord is not required if you upload your video files directly to a Mac or PC and edit them there, then share them over the Internet or rip a DVD that can be played on a DVD player connected to a TV. But if you'd rather not go to all that trouble, buy the mini plug. Be sure to get the special high definition plug if you have HDTV.
Canon digital camcorder Accessories Batteries
You never want to be without a live battery pack when you use your camcorder. The battery never seems to last as long as you expect it to, and if you carry a backup battery, you will thank yourself every time you slide it into your digital camcorder. Backup battery chargers are also available, so you can charge one set of batteries in the camera and the other set in a battery charger.
Canon digital camcorder Accessories Lenses
One Canon digital camcorder accessory that came with your camcorder when you purchased it was a general purpose, general distance lens. The easiest way to add drama to your videos is to vary your view with a new lens. Tele Converter lens increases the focal length of your camcorder's general distance lens by 1.5 times. A wide converter lens expands the width of your perspective by .7 times.
The best lenses in the world won't do you any good if you don't have the right filters. Adding filters to your inventory of Canon digital camcorder accessories and using filters in your video will instantly change the look of your video.
Canon digital camcorder Accessories Protection And Comfort
Every digital camcorder should have a case to protect it from bumps, lumps and drops. Look for a sturdy case with comfortable straps. Make sure the bag has plenty of pockets for battery packs and chargers, lenses and filters. Choose a high-end leather carrying case or a vegetarian-friendly synthetic case. Don't forget a shoulder strap for added comfort.

Ready to become a professional photographer? Here’s how to pick a professional lens
So you decided to become a real photographer? You bought yourself a nice little SLR and now you’re even taking some pretty good looking pictures. You want to get a better lens? Good. But there are so many types of lenses out there! There are wide angles and telephotos, zoom lenses and even fisheyes – which one should you pick?
Different lenses will give you different results but you should know each type of lens and be able to decide which lens will work best with your subject, light and composition. Let’s go over the lenses together and see if we can get a better understanding:
Wide Angle Lens - Like its name, wide angle lens can take in a wider field than usual. This is a useful lens when taking landscapes and views. The wide angle’s common focal length is usually 24mm and 28mm. A wide angle lens can also focus on foregrounds and background at the same time. If you’re shooting a picture that everything in it is important, you should use a wide angle lens.
Telephoto Lens – is a long focal length lens. It’s great in making objects in the far horizon look close and magnified. So if you are in a sporting event, a concert, or any scenario where your subject is very far from you, a telephoto lens will work wonders. The telephoto can also show much more details than the human eye, reduce depth of field and solely focus on the subject, creating clear and vivid images. There are also super telephoto lenses available, but with 300mm focal length they could be pretty heavy because of all the glass work. You’ll probably need a tripod, or somebody’s head.
Macro Lens – Should be used when you need to take a photo of a ladybug on a flower. The macro lens will help you take extreme close ups. The quality is very high and a photo can be taken from a fair distance that will not scare away shy subjects.
Fisheye – These lenses are always fun and exciting to use. They use a view of 180 degrees and create a distortion of reality. When shooting a landscape, it will have a distinct curve to it. When shooting a person, it will seem as if you’re looking through a peephole.
What is a Teleconverter? It is basically a secondary lens which can be mounted between your camera and the lens. What does it do? It increases your lens’s focal length. So why buy a bigger lens and not a converter? Because of quality. A teleconverter will make focusing harder and the optical quality of your lens will also be lower. If you do decide to buy a teleconverter, get a good one.

Need help on understanding/buying teleconverter lens for Canon...?
I don't know much about lens/zoom/etc...
I have a Canon Powershot A520, 4.0 megapixel, zoom lens 5.8-23.2mm 1:2.6-5.5.
I took a picture in movement/sports mode and the subject is still too far away. I want it to be closer. I zoomed my lens all the way as close as it would go. I see they sell a teleconverter lens 1.75x for my camera.
I want to be sure it's worth it to buy this lens or should I just get a newer better digital camera?
Will adding the lens onto it make the pictures any worse? I don't want to waste money on a lens to get a closer pic if some of it will be blurry or if it isn't going to make it alot closer. I would like to see some comparison pictures, one taken with camera like mine zoomed fully and then one with lens added on. Does anyone have one that can post some pics for me to reference? The converter lens is 149 or 199, I feel like I can add a few dollars and get a new camera that will zoom farther.
Please help me you camera experts!! Thanks!
Save your money. A 1.75X "teleconverter" will change your 23.2 zoom to 40.6 (23.2 X 1.75) - a 57% increase in image size at the same distance. So if your image zoomed in at 23.2 is 1" at 40.6 it will be 1.57". Will that really be a discernible difference? Also, you will likely have some image degradation using the "add on" teleconverter.
If you plan on doing a lot of sports photography a DSLR would be your best buy. If you're just wanting more zoom then perhaps a Canon G9 would be a better choice.
