The qualifications for this category obviously start with a size that can easily be put into a pocket or purse. The Canon and Sony are approximately the same size and weight, while the Panasonic is a bit larger and heavier, yet it still qualifies for pocket transport.

Hopefully, the following comments will help you to make a decision about which of these three wonderful cameras is your best choice.

Canon SD1200 IS Elph:

One more important item would be price, right? Prices are coming down in digital cameras as quality goes up. The Sony and Canon are in the same $$ range at just under $200, while the Panasonic is slightly more at about $220.

how do you upload video from a sony carl-zeiss vario sonnar camera?

I am trying to upload video from my camera to the computer and i need to know how. I plug it in and nothing happens, i even put the software that the camera came with and still nothing. Please help!!! what do i do??

Which Sony Camcorder? Which computer?

"Carl-Zeiss Vario Sonnar" is not a Sony model - these are the words on the lens. The model number is on the sticker on the bottom of the camera.

ALL Digital 8 and miniDV tape based camcorders transfer DV format video using a firewire cable connecting the DV port on the camcorder to the Firewire port on the computer - and the camcorder needs to be in "Play" or "VCR" mode.

The DV port on the camcorder is ALWAYS 4-pin, so you need either a 4-pin to 6-pin or 4-pin to 9-pin firewire cable.

Hard disc drive and flash memory camcorders use USB.

DVD camcorders can be treated the same as VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, Vidoe8, Beta and other analog formats... you need to get an analog/digital bridge (Pinnacle Dazzle or Canopus). DVD based camcorders can also have their video ripped using a ripper like HandBrake if your computer has a drawer-loading DVD drive.
